Internal Medicine Resident PGY-1
Division of Internal Medicine at John H Stroger Hospital of Cook County
“I first discovered the Women in Medicine by scrolling on my Twitter feed over 3 years ago during my second year of medical school.
Looking back, I had no understanding of the impact this organization would have over the years that followed. WIM was one of the first spaces in which I felt I could be my authentic self while feeling seen, valued, and heard in both of my roles - a woman in our society and a physician-to-be.
From the student preconference, I knew I needed to become more involved; that inspiration blossomed into joining and later co-leading the Women in Medicine Research Lab, as well as assisting in community engagement, event planning, and social media/marketing strategy for the organization.
WIM has taught me how to stand confidently on my own, have pride in the advancements of women and the importance of breaking the glass ceiling, and provided me the mentors and sponsors to lean on when I need a fresh perspective.
As a first-generation college student, this organization has allowed me to grow in my skills and self-discovery, allowing me to become a better physician and overall person.”
